CHARIS PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Family Living and Social Relationships
Each Charis home provides a positive relationship-based atmosphere with a focus on safety and respect.

Ecological Support
Charis works directly with all members of a youth’s ecology including the placing agent, family, and community collaboration.

Health Awareness
Charis is committed to the view that good emotional health is related to good physical condition and nutrition.

Vocational Assessment and Training
Charis provides the opportunity for each student to progress through the five main vocational areas: Career Guidance/Awareness; Exploration/ Assessment; Job Seeking and Maintenance Skills; Skill Development; and Community Application using Life Centered Career Education.

Recreation
The Charis program includes experiences in hiking, picnics, swimming, ropes course, snowshoeing and skiing, camping, fishing, bicycling, roller skating, spectator sports, children’s theater, movies.

Cultural Enrichment
Charis provides a wide variety of cultural enrichment experiences including concerts, arts and crafts exhibits, community events, and peer home visits.

Community Outreach
The youth participate in community functions with supervision including Americorp, community clean up days, trail construction days, holiday sings and food baskets, church youth group activities, and neighborhood barbecues throughout the year.

Life Skills
The youth at Charis are expected to learn these skills and practice them in daily activities such as consumer shopping, meal preparation, following rules, taking directions, and meeting schedules.

Social Skills includes Anger Management, problem solving, planning, self evaluations and goal setting.
