Hello Everyone:
We have had a wonderful year at Charis Youth Center; we have much to celebrate and be grateful. This year Charis Youth Center celebrated 31 years of incorporation serving more than 1900 youth and providing employment for more than 3600 employees. Currently, we have the strongest administrative team, and the most outstanding treatment and education teams in the history of Charis Youth Center. We truly celebrate all the accomplishments Charis Youth Center has been awarded over this past year.
This year we are proud to announce that Charis Youth Center is the first in the nation to be tripled accredited; in 2014 Charis received the highest term accreditation (6 years) through Western Association of Schools and Colleges, in July 2015 Charis received accreditation through the National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services, and the Council On Accreditation. We are very proud of the Charis team working to achieve the highest honor of accreditation.
In March of 2015 Charis Youth Center officially opened a Female RCL 12 transition home called Arcadia. This home is located in the heart of the Grass Valley community and is being used as a bridge for youth preparing for transition back to their local community.
We truly celebrate all the accomplishments Charis Youth Center has been awarded over this past year.
The Board and Executive Administration made the decision to hire an Executive Consultant to assist in the development of 3-5 years Strategic Plan and a Succession Plan for the Founding Executive Director. His consultations, trainings and workshops have added knowledge, clarity, accountability and transparency with decisions for positive policies and powerful data driven outcomes. We continue to participate in Quality Assurance practices with Behavior Pathways System (BPS) getting feedback statewide and nationally for outstanding quality improvement in our children services and staff satisfaction.
Please join me in reviewing our remarkable highlights for 2015 and follow us in 2016 as we strive to meet our Agency Goals and Benchmarking results. Visit us often for the latest updates and events at www.charisyouthcenter.org

Carol Fuller Powell, EdD

“At Charis our son went from being constantly depressed and acting out to a confident teen more willing to accept and work through the issues he faces. What made a world of difference was the staff’s unwavering acceptance of him, clear and firm limits, and the philosophy that every day is a new day where he can try to do his best. It’s been a year and half since he has been back home and he still talks about Charis and how helpful it was for him.”
~Parent of Graduated Charis Student
“In my time at Charis they helped me to graduate from high school with a diploma, taught me life skills needed to obtain a job, and work towards living on my own. They have given me a sense of belonging and encouraged me to work toward my
goals every day.”~Charis Graduate 2014
