Charis Youth Center’s Non Public Special Education School provides
a 12-month/235-day school year program. All teachers hold a Specialist
Credential and have had experience working with the emotionally challenged
population. The student to staff ratio is 2 to 1, which allows for intensive
individualized and small group instruction. This ratio helps staff remediate
the difference between a student’s current functioning level and
their potential performance level. The educational psychologist and special
education teachers use standardized tests and direct assessment to determine
the present functional level for developing an Individual Educational
Program (IEP), curriculum placement, progress and performance monitoring,
and instructional planning. Curriculum is geared to each student with
a multi modality and level approach using supportive materials to achieve
success with or without differential standards. The State Frameworks and
Standards are used in developing approved curriculum for High School Graduation
Credits. Charis works with the local school districts to administer all
performance tests including the Senior Exit Exam/Project. In addition,
there is an Individualized Transitional Plan (ITP) for each student. All
students work with the treatment team and faculty to develop their Positive
Behavioral Plan (PBP) using the Functional Analyses and Day Treatment
Program data. For more information about our Day Treatment Program please
contact our Mental Health Department.
